How to Win as the Impostor in Among Us Online: Cooldowns, Vents and Where the Bots Don't Look
Published · 2 min read
The impostor round in Among Us Online is a timing problem. Every kill starts a cooldown (the Kill Cooldown slider on the start screen, 5 to 45 seconds), the bots keep clearing tasks while you wait, and the crew wins the moment the task bar fills. So the job is to spend each cooldown walking to the next safe kill, not hiding.
Where the bots go
The bots follow the task list. On a default round most of them start in Cafeteria and Admin, then spread to Electrical, Storage and the Reactor. They walk the corridors; they do not wander into corners. That makes two spots reliable: the back of Electrical (behind the wires panel) and the top-right of Navigation. A crewmate doing a task there is alone, and a body there stays unreported until a bot happens to path through.
Vents are travel, not hiding
The Skeld's vents link Admin to Cafeteria, Electrical to Security and Medbay, and Navigation to Shields and Weapons. Kill in Electrical, vent to Medbay, walk out looking like you came from a scan. The bots do not see you vent, but a bot standing in the room when you pop out will report the moment it finds the body, and its vote follows you.
Sabotage to split the crew
Reactor and O2 sabotages send the bots running to fix them; the ones that were alone in a room become alone in a corridor. Lights is the quiet one: bots slow down and walk into each other, and a kill in the dark is rarely seen. Doors buy you a cooldown — close Electrical with a crewmate inside and you have a private room.
Meetings
When a body is reported, vote for whoever the bots are already accusing, or Skip. The bots' votes are noisy but they lean toward the last colour they saw near the body, and a tie skips. Never vote yourself into a spotlight by accusing a bot that was across the map; the build tracks positions, and a wrong accusation makes you the next target.
Settings for a fast impostor round
Kill Cooldown 10, Kill Distance long, Speed 1.25, Tasks Amount high. High tasks give you time; long distance lets you kill from the corridor without entering the room.
