Among Us Online vs the Real Among Us: What the Browser Version Has, and What It Doesn't
Published · 2 min read
The version on this site is a fan-made browser build, and it helps to know exactly how it compares with Innersloth's game before you expect the wrong things from it.
What is the same
- The Skeld, room for room, with the same vents and task markers.
- The loop: tasks for the crew, kills and a cooldown for the impostor, bodies to report, an emergency button, meetings and a vote with Skip.
- Sabotage: Reactor, O2, Lights, Comms and doors, fixed from the same panels.
- Colours and hats on the Customize Player screen.
What is different
- Bots instead of players. This is the big one. There is no lobby, no room code and no chat; the other crewmates are computer-controlled. That is also why a round starts the moment you press PLAY.
- One map. No Mira HQ, Polus, the Airship or the Fungle.
- No roles beyond crewmate and impostor — no Engineer, Scientist, Shapeshifter or Guardian Angel — and always one impostor.
- Settings are sliders, not a full lobby menu: kill distance, cooldown, speed and task count.
- No accounts, no cosmetics shop, nothing saved between rounds except your name and colour in the browser.
Which one to play
If you have friends online and ten minutes, the real game is the real game. If you are on a school Chromebook with a lesson break and nobody to play with, the browser version gives you a complete round — including the good part, the impostor's cooldown maths and the meeting bluff — without waiting for a lobby to fill. The bots vote well enough to eject you when you are careless and badly enough to be fooled, which is roughly the experience of a public lobby anyway.
Performance notes
The build is a Construct 3 HTML5 game served from amongus-online.io. On an integrated GPU, turn off HD Skeld and Shadows on the start screen; on a phone the joystick and buttons appear on screen and the round plays the same way.
